Mother's Day plates - Fenton
Beginning in 1971, Fenton produced a series of 9 plates honoring Mother's Day. Each plate showed a mother and child and was based on a famous painting or sculpture. The plates were made in amethyst Carnival as well as non-iridized blue satin and white satin. Special editions were made in red and thus are less often seen.

Shown to the left is a limited edition plate in red from 1979. It is signed on the back "George W. Fenton" and numbered 278 of 5000.

Thus it appears that 5,000 of these red plates were made, it is actually difficult to say that they were indeed all made. The ultimate amount made would have depended on how many were sold.

The back of each plate has the Fenton logo and a description of the painting/sculpture and artist that inspired the design on the front. To the left is the back of the 1971 plate.
