Target - Dugan/Diamond
Easy to spot, this vase pattern has six ribs with a column of five hobs between each rib. Both Dugan and Diamond made Target vases.

Dugan Target vases are substantial, heavy vases with base diameters between 3.75 and just under 4 inches. The marie has a many-rayed star, and the top of the base is puffy. Probably about half the Dugan Target vases are peach opal, the rest are purple or white, although a rare green example is known. Heights range from 5 to 13 inches.

Diamond Target vases are thin, light vases with six different base diameters between 3 and just over 3.5 inches. The marie has a many-rayed star, and the top of the base is flat. Diamond Targets are found most often in marigold or many different shades of amethyst, with some blue, a very few in odd shades of green, and reported in amber. Heights range from 8.5 to 12 inches. A few examples have been flared out into bowl shapes.

When any vase was swung, the pattern elements became elongated. In Target vases some of the hobs became ovals; wide ribs stretched into narrow ribs. This was evidently confusing for Mrs. Hartung, not having the wide access to the hundreds of examples that we have today, and she named one example Target (IV-20) but another example looked so different that she named it Hobnail Vase (IX-19).
